A figure in a mold

Figures cast in resin make a special entrance: smooth skin, rich color, details like cast glass. You can look for resin statues from 1,000 to 2,000 euro for sale when you want figure and gloss together.

Resin statues are cast from molds taken of models or modeled directly and then cast. That allows fine detail such as hair, folds and expression that would be hard to carve in wood. They are often painted or colored through, which gives them a tone of their own.

Stance and location

A statue needs eye contact and space. Set it at eye level on a sideboard or plinth, away from lamps that give off heat. Resin dislikes heat, and fine parts such as fingers or edges are sensitive to knocks.

Authenticity and edition

Ask whether the figure is a one-off or from a limited edition, and whether the edition is numbered and signed. With cast figures the number at the foot is a practical record you should keep for later.
