Built rather than drawn
Abstract collagraphs show what happens when material becomes the motif: fabric, card, sand, and varnish print as structure into the paper. Abstract collagraphs are for sale here, in calm as well as forceful compositions.
The plate is a relief. Where material sits, it picks up ink or leaves a bright field. Out of this come fields of grain, stripes, and soft tonal transitions that no other technique shows in quite this way. Some plates are inked several times, so that layers of tone over tone show in the impression.

Tactility on the wall
These sheets draw you closer because embossing and paper structure are visible. Hang them where light comes in from the side. A frame with space to the glass lets the relief depth work freely. On light paper the embossing feels delicate, on dark paper strong.
