The picture as a building site

Manipulated photography begins where the camera leaves off: montage, overlays, color interventions. Manipulated photographs for sale between 1,000 and 2,000 euro are best chosen with an eye on how visible the editing is allowed to be.

The source photo is only one building block here. Elements are shifted, colors alienated, textures laid on. Some pieces remain realistic with almost unnoticeable changes, others show an invented world of their own. A single image can combine motifs from different days and places and still feel cast in one piece.

Effect between photo and painting

At home, an edited photograph acts like a hybrid. It can hang beside paintings without looking out of place. Styles such as impressionism or gestural expression show how far the interventions can go.

Transparency about technique

With manipulated work especially, the description should say how the picture was made, what paper it was printed on and whether an edition exists. At 1,000 to 2,000 euro, larger formats and mounted prints are typical.
