Smooth field, rough stroke
A grid of flat acrylic with lines and hatching in oil pastel on top: geometric pictures on canvas work with two surfaces in one format. If you are looking to buy geometric paintings on canvas with oil pastel for sale, that interplay is the thing to watch for.
Acrylic covers large fields evenly and dries matte to satin. Oil pastel adds contours that stay slightly restless on purpose. That contrast turns a strict construction into a picture with a handwriting. Angles and spacing were usually marked out beforehand and secured with tape. It pays to step back while looking: from a few meters the grid and the strokes merge into a calm order, while from arm’s length every irregularity shows. Both views belong to this type of picture.

Room and light
Two surfaces respond differently to light: the acrylic stays even, while the pastel gleams a little waxy. Side light brings out the difference, for example on a wall next to a window.
Questions before deciding
How clean are the edges, is the pastel fixed, and how deep is the stretcher bar? With those details you can judge the picture without holding it in your hands.
