Surface from powder and pressure
Abstract graphite pictures in the 1,000 to 2,000 euro tier produce fields, fog or grids from nothing but gray. You can find abstract paintings with graphite from 1,000 to 2,000 euro for sale here if you look for calm, depth and fine sheen.
Abstract graphite painting uses sticks and powder rubbed with a finger, cloth or brush. Soft gradients appear beside sharp cuts. Several layers create depth that recalls smoke or metal and shifts in the light.

Steering the light
Graphite changes its tonal values with lighting. Directional light from a slanted angle makes gloss fields glow, diffuse light calms them. Hang the work so you can experience both, ideally opposite a side window.
Condition and frame
Ask about the fixing, about paper or panel support and about weight. Behind glass with a gap, graphite is well protected. At this price tier, a confirmation of authenticity and a signature belong in the description. Request detail shots in raking light, since that is the only way to judge the surface of the graphite fields.
