One material, many tones
Gouache on the sheet, nothing but water, pigment and binder: this is a technique of clear decisions. Anyone browsing gouache paintings made in gouache under 500 euro for sale is after color fields as matte and rich as pastel chalk.
Pure gouache can be lightened with white and deepened with black, which watercolor does not allow. Tones are therefore finely graded, strong yet soft. Poster-like effects, patterns and strict fields are typical.

A friendly entry price range
Under 500 euro, sheets on paper are common, often in modest sizes, a good start for collecting. Framing works on paper usually costs more than expected, since glass and a mat are part of it. Plan for it right away, because unframed gouache creases and stains easily.
Storing the sheet properly
Unframed gouache is stored flat, in acid-free tissue and away from moisture. Do not roll it, because the matte layer can crack. If you do not frame the sheet right away, place it in a cardboard portfolio. That keeps it clean until it finds its spot on the wall.
