Acrylic in many guises
Acrylic is more flexible than oil and can be set on canvas, wood or paper, which opens many routes for metaphysical picture ideas. Metaphysical acrylic paintings for sale are worth reading closely for support and format as well.
Thinned, acrylic behaves like watercolor; applied thickly, like gouache or oil. For metaphysical subjects painters like to use both: transparent veils in the sky, opaque planes in the walls. A touch of spray paint creates soft gradients at the horizon that no brush produces as evenly.

Size and stance
Large formats show the empty squares in their full breadth, small ones act like a window onto a foreign city. Both work as long as the wall around the picture stays calm. A strip in black or oak takes nothing from the piece’s severity.
Pointers for choosing
Read the listing to see whether spray paint was used and whether a final varnish protects the surface; more on that paint type sits under spray paint. For larger works, the price class 5,000 to 10,000 euro is a point of reference.
