Chalk finds hold
Pastel on canvas with an acrylic ground has the luminosity of chalk and the stature of a painting. Pictures in this technique are for sale here, from delicate planes to forceful strokes.
On a canvas with a rough acrylic ground, pastel grips as on sandpaper. That lets several layers be laid on top of each other without the color slipping. The result has a matte, velvety surface that swallows light and makes colors appear calm.

Style and price
You meet Expressive and gestural especially often, with an entry under 500 euro. Since pastel on canvas is unusual, a look at the technique line in the description is worthwhile, so you know how the picture is built.
Protecting and hanging
Even on canvas, pastel stays delicate. A frame with glass is advisable, as is a dry place without sun. If the picture hangs unframed, avoid touching it and dust it gently from time to time.
