Without objects, with depth

In an abstract relief, effect arises from the sequence of planes: projections, recesses, joints. Paint stresses single zones, metal or plaster set contrasts. The eye reads the surface like a landscape. Woods of different thicknesses are often layered, milled and given paint or metal. The edges catch light, the recesses shadow, and so the wall gains a pattern that changes with time of day and viewpoint.

Wall, light, distance
Reliefs need distance from neighboring pictures so their shadows have room. Side light shows the depth, indirect light calms it. Hang the work so you see it from different angles in passing.
Technique and statics
Ask about weight, depth and wood species. With reliefs, the back decides about safety: hanging rail, plate or hanging eyes. A detail shot of the back helps plan the installation.
