Color finds its measure
Abstract painting with graphite combines fields of color with metallic gray. Abstract mixed-media painting with graphite for sale shows pictures that oscillate between space and plane.
Graphite helps color find its measure. Beside the gray, red, ochre or blue seem more concentrated, as if set into sharper focus. Painters use this to structure planes and build tension without needing a motif.

Order of layers
Whether graphite lies under or over the color changes the picture. Beneath, it shimmers through thin glazes; on top, it sets marks that look hard and brittle. Sometimes wax or binder joins, sealing the gray and making it appear deeper.
Check before buying
Read the listing to see how the graphite is bound and protected. A photo in raking light shows whether the shimmer is even. Plan frame and hanging before you commit, and measure the wall generously.
