Action on the surface
Where gesture and material collide, tension builds: a broad brush pull beside a glued scrap or a streak of chalk. You can find expressive mixed media in acrylic for sale here if you like pictures that look more like an action than a motif.
In the pairing of gestural style and acrylic, impulse counts. Paint is poured, wiped and scraped off, then overlaid with collage or marker. The result tells no scene, it tells how the picture was made. Often there are layers that only show on a second look: a newspaper column under the paint, a trace of pencil, a strip of tape. They give the gesture a counterpart to rub against.

Setting it in a living space
A strong piece needs a calm backdrop. Above a sofa, on a stair landing or in a hallway it works well if you keep fussy shelving away from it. A black or white shadow-gap frame separates it cleanly from the wall.
Pointers for choosing
Check which materials sit on top of the paint and whether they are lightfast. Chalk, charcoal and pastel pencil in particular should be fixed. Dimensions and weight matter if wooden panels or thick collage layers are involved.
