Original artwork description
‘Where the Light Settles 02’ was inspired by a landscape I passed on my bicycle one evening on my way home from my studio. The light was already fading, yet the sky was filled with intense fluorescent pinks and deep blues, reflected in the water. I stopped to take in the extraordinary colours and the quietness of the moment.
The scene reminded me of a passage in Geert Mak’s book ‘Het ontsnapte land‘, in which he describes the long transition from evening light into darkness: the colors of the sky blending with the fields, the lights appearing in the houses, and the landscape gradually falling silent.
