Fleeting light on a small panel
Impressionists liked to paint on small wooden panels because they were easy to carry outdoors. Anyone hoping to find impressionist paintings on wood under 500 euro for sale will see that tradition in a present-day format.
Impressionist painting captures a moment: a mood of light, a gust in the leaves, the shimmer on water. On wood the short brushstrokes stay easy to read because the surface cushions nothing. Colors stand as single dabs side by side and only blend in the eye of the viewer.

Hanging and color effect
Small impressionist panels need distance from other pictures, or they lose their calm. Warm, soft light makes the dabs glow, while cold spotlights make them look harsh. In this price range you often meet sketches and studies that convince through their very directness.
Collecting studies
If you love impressionist studies, begin with one small panel and add other times of day, seasons or places later. A row of panels in the same frame tone shows how light changes over a day. In this way a start grows quite naturally into a wall.
