Two speeds
Gestural acrylic with charcoal meets two ways of working: fast painting and direct drawing. Paintings in this combination are for sale here, where brush marks and charcoal lines cross one another.
Acrylic dries quickly and allows layer upon layer. Charcoal is drawn in seconds and can be smudged at once. Where the two meet, a tension between the planned and the accidental arises that marks gestural pictures.

Support and format
Whether canvas, board or paper, the description should name the support. For paper and board a frame with glass is advised, for canvas a shadow-gap frame and perhaps a protective varnish. Large formats need a stable wall.
Light and care
Charcoal hardly changes in light, but acrylic can darken with time. Hang the picture without direct sun. Take dust off with a soft brush, never with a damp cloth, which would smear the charcoal at once.
