Contour on a color field
Graphic sharpness on canvas: acrylic supplies the surface, charcoal the line, lettering or silhouette. Paintings in this style are for sale here, with a clear drawing sitting on a strong ground.
When an acrylic ground is smooth and even, the charcoal line above it feels almost like a screen print. On a textured surface it breaks up, gaining grain and unrest. Both solutions are possible, and both change the character of the picture.

Illustrative and typographic
Letters and signs in charcoal have none of the hardness of ink. They stay velvety and feel handmade. That softness is the appeal of such pictures, in which lettering is set as a picture element and not as a caption.
Check before buying
Ask about fixing and protective layers, since charcoal on acrylic can be rubbed off. For hanging, a shadow-gap frame is enough. A calm wall without competing patterns lets the drawing be recognized.
