Speed in layers
Oil on canvas with an acrylic base and a gestural hand joins two tempos: quick acrylic for the first movement, slow oil for the follow-through. Those who love a visible painting process will enjoy these paintings for sale.
First the painter lays down wild marks in acrylic, then comes oil, which stays wet longer and flows more softly. This creates transitions that pure acrylic rarely manages: velvety edges next to hard gestures.

Care and patience
Oil paint needs months to dry through, and some artists varnish only after a year. Ask when the picture was made and whether it has been varnished yet. Until then, hang it carefully and protect it from dust.
Gloss and raking light
Oil passages often shine more than acrylic areas. That gives the picture depth but can produce reflections. Hang it at an angle to the window and choose soft light that shows the shift between matte and glossy application.
