Composition from fragments

Modern mixed media photo works build pictures from parts: a strip of sky, a square of city, a bar of color. The interplay of fragments creates a new order. Typical is a build-up of layers in which the photo is sometimes the ground, sometimes part of the surface. Where paper, foil or paint lie over it, depth appears that a single print does not have.

Space and frame
Hang modern photo collages at eye level, in a row with similar formats. A slim frame of metal or wood holds the surface together. Anti-reflective glass keeps reflections from overlaying details.
One of a kind or edition?
With photo mixed media especially, ask whether a piece is one of a kind or part of an edition. Overpainted prints are usually singular pieces. A certificate or a signature on the back helps with documentation.
