The Irises Kept the Morning grew from my impressions of the gardens of Giverny in spring 2026. I was drawn to the deep blue and violet irises rising through the greenery, while warmer flowers caught the light above them. The garden seemed to hold the freshness of morning a little longer — in the cool colours, the damp leaves and the last traces of dew.
Back in my studio, that sensation developed into this vibrant semi-abstract floral painting. Expressive brushwork carries blue, violet, turquoise, green, pink, orange and yellow across the canvas. The flowers remain recognisable, yet gradually dissolve into colour and movement.
The title reflects the idea that morning does not disappear all at once. For a brief moment, it remains in the flowers — held in the petals, moisture and light. Inspired by Giverny and Impressionism, the painting captures the garden as a living, sensory experience.
