Madame Butterfly, a tragic opera by Giacomo Puccini. It teils the story of a Geisha named Cio-Cio-San and her lover, the American consul Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton. The opera explores themes of love, betrayal, and the impact of cultural exchange and imperialism. lt is set against the backdrop of Japans opening to the West and the challenges faced by its people during this period. The operas libretto was written by David Belasco, based on a novella by John Luther Lang, and it has been performed in various productions around the world, reflecting its enduring relevance and impact on the operatic repertoire.
This opera was a part of the Opera Festival by the lake Konstanz in Bregenz and had a great succes.
This particular artwork shows a moment of Cio treasuring a baby in her and dreaming of a beautiful future, She is a picture of japanese saint for me. An example of a inner purity, dignity and true love. Below are the words from her arie in act 2:

This artwork is a part of my Opera Collection and was shown at the Madame Butterfly Opera Exhibition in Bregenz.
Artwork was originally inspired by the character of Chio-chio-san from Madame Butterfly opera by german componist Maria Carl Weber. Agathe has such a pure soul and strong faith that the devil is anable to claim her body or soul despite great efforts.
