Original artwork description
This monotype brings together the upright lines of reed (Phragmites australis) with the more delicate, branching inflorescences of wood club-rush (Scirpus sylvaticus). Their interplay creates a dynamic structure of clarity and dispersion: strong, luminous blades cut vertically and diagonally through the image, while the fine, almost floating forms of the club-rush hover like a fleeting veil.
The bright negative shapes seem to emerge from the darkness, as if the plants had briefly stepped into the light. The composition evokes a quiet, dense riverside space—a place between water and land, where motion and stillness coexist. It thrives on contrast: between structural strength and soft dissolution, between linear force and fragile fragmentation.
Traces of the printing process—subtle blurs, grainy transitions—add atmospheric depth and lend the scene a dreamlike quality. The work invites the viewer to immerse themselves in this quiet vegetation and to sense the hidden dynamics of an often unnoticed natural environment.
