Two layers, two times
Tempera over acrylic on canvas keeps symbolism light yet firm: a ground that breathes and a paint that glows quietly. Anyone seeking symbolist acrylic paintings on canvas with tempera for sale wants pictures of restrained splendor.
Acrylic dries quickly, tempera faster still, though they are brittle in different ways. Combining them on canvas lets painters set thin tempera details over flexible areas. With plenty of patience, pictures arise that feel like icons and hang lightly on the wall.

Reading the imagery
Symbolist works speak in signs: a bird, a veil, a face in the moon. They do not want to be explained but understood over time. A note from the artist can help, but it does not replace longer looking.
Care and hanging
Lean the picture upright against the wall, never flat on the floor or on furniture. Soft side light makes the matte surfaces glow. Touching can be avoided by hanging the picture above eye level, yet within sight.
