Paintings for Sale: Originals by Independent Artists
An original painting shows how it was made: brushstrokes, layered paint and the weave of the canvas, none of which a print can reproduce. The range runs from acrylic and oil to watercolor, and the styles from abstract to photorealistic. Independent artists offer distinct visual languages that stay interesting for years.

Acrylic, Oil or Watercolor?
Acrylic on canvas dries fast and handles bold color fields, crisp edges and a switch between thin glazes and thick paint. Colors stay saturated and barely shift as they dry. These works suit bright, modern rooms and can usually hang without glass.
Oil on canvas is all about depth. The paint dries slowly, blends softly and has a slight sheen. The picture looks different in morning and evening light, so a wall with side daylight shows it best. A layer of varnish protects the surface.
Watercolor works with transparency and the white of the paper. The sheets feel light and delicate but cannot take direct sun. Behind glass with a mat, they sit well in a hallway, a bedroom or above a desk.
By Style and Budget
- Abstract: color, form and rhythm stand on their own and leave room for your own reading.
- Impressionism: light and mood count for more than detail, often with visible brushwork.
- Photorealism: up close, you can see how finely and patiently the work was painted.
- under 500 euro: this price range typically brings smaller formats, watercolors and young voices.
- 2,000 to 5,000 euro: larger canvases and more established styles are common here.
Questions Before You Buy
What should I look for in a signature and certificate?
The listing should say whether and where the painting is signed, on the front or the back. A certificate is an extra piece of evidence. If something is missing, ask the artist.
How do I pick the right size for my wall?
Measure the free wall space and tape the dimensions out with painter’s tape. Above a sofa, a painting works well when it covers about half to three quarters of the furniture’s width.
Can I talk about the price?
Some works are marked “Open to offers”. In that case you can make a proposal and find out whether it suits the artist.
